Zullo’s review from consumers

“The pizza from Zullo’s is amazing.  The crust is full of flavor and crispy on the bottom,… just like in Rome.  And I love the fact that they are a zero waste kitchen!  Plus all of their ingredients are locally sourced and organic.”

– Dona. M   Chicago  IL

“Zullo’s is selling their apple cider donuts, panini, pizza and dog treats at the LSFM.  Excellent value, fresh and warm.  They also feature little Italian meat pies. I tried two flavors – the lamb and cranberry chicken.  Superb!”

–Darking.S Chicago IL

“My boyfriend got a panini, I think from Zullo’s, which was to die for.  The bread was made fresh that morning and so amazing.  The filling was a lamb and veggie egg scramble.”

–Tera D Chicago IL

“I’d recently read S.M.’s review talking about the Apple cider donuts and that’s what I had on my mind.  Next to the cashier were free samples just fried.  Had to, had to have them.  $5 dollars for an order and they were puffy & perfect.  Must be eaten whilst warm, best when hot.  If eaten after it’s cooled or the next day, the taste is salty and better off in the trash.  Also had a slice of their veggie pizza made with roasted organic vegetables.  Unless you’ve had organic veg pizza, you don’t know how tastful these veggies are.  The flavor of the sauce matched taste and I long for another slice.  Pricing is a bit too costly, next time I may like to get a pizza box for take home and make sure to get it with  their home made sausage.“

–Jacob J Chicago IL

”I can only review the famous apple cider donuts, cos that’s all we ate.
I was torn between getting dessert while at the French Market at FLiPs (crepes) and Zullo’s, but I figured that you can get crepes in many places, and I kept reading about these infamous donuts. Little balls of fried dough, puffy and hot, rolled in cinnamon sugar and served in a wax paper cone. Would be ideal in the fall but I wouldn’t turn ‘em away any time!“

–S.M. Naperville, IL

Zullo’s Peach Fiadoni
Makes twenty (approximately)

Ingredients
2/3 stick of butter
½ c. sugar
½ lemon, juiced
Pinch of salt
3-4 medium to large ripe peaches, peeled and cut into small chunks (bruised or over-ripe peaches also work)
2 tbsp. cornstarch or flour
¼ c. water
1 Pillsbury refrigerated piecrust*
1 egg, beaten (for wash)
Cinnamon or other seasonings optional

How to make Fiadoni

1. Heat pan with butter, sugar, lemon juice, and salt.

2. Add peaches; cook until soft.

3. In a separate bowl, dissolve cornstarch/flour in water — make sure it’s mixed well.

4. While stirring, slowly add cornstarch mixture to peaches. Continue stirring for about one minute.

5. Turn off heat and transfer mixture to a shallow cookie sheet to cool completely.

6. Unroll piecrust and cut into rounds using edge of a glass; brush with egg wash.

7. Center a small amount of filling (about ¾ tsp.); fold over edges into half-moon and press, using a fork to secure the seal. Egg wash the tops.

8. Bake on a cookie sheet for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown in a 350° oven.

9. Serve immediately or at room temp.

*Zullo’s uses homemade dough; we wanted to make it easy.

Zullo’s Penne Pasta

penne pasta with roasted veggies

Penne Pasta

Penne Pasta with roasted local organic veggies. We use only vegetables that are in season, so they are fresh to you. We add some extra virgin olive oil, organic garlic, and a homemade one minute red sauce.

Homemade organic meatballs are also an option with the pasta. The meat balls are made with local Black Earth Farms pork, bread chunks, homemade ricotta, garlic…pan fried in olive oil.

All together the penne pasta comes with a little kick to it, but nothing to get squeamish about. After a couple weeks over experimenting we have found the perfect amount of spice to go along with the pasta. Being a lighter pasta, it can be eaten either for lunch or dinner and let you get back to work. With all the ingredients coming from local farms we give you the freshest all natural organic pasta possible.

We’re prepping for farmers market season.  Tomorrow we’ll be at the last winter Green City Market farmers market and the Nettelhorst School French Market which is a new one this year.  We hope to be in at least 8 markets this season both in the city and suburbs.  So much to do but very exciting.  Can’t wait to get back to the outdoor markets and seeing the farmers again!
